Calm sea, clear steps, faster help.

Check response and breathing before starting CPR. Call local help early and keep the person on a stable surface. For drowning cases, rescue breaths matter — but only if you are trained and it is safe.

First: make the scene safe

Before helping anyone in the water, make sure you are not becoming the second emergency. Tell the boat crew, use a life jacket or float, and move the person to a stable place if it is safe.

Simple CPR awareness

If someone is not responding and not breathing normally, emergency CPR may be needed. If you are trained, start with the method you learned. If you are not trained, call for help immediately and follow dispatcher or trained crew instructions.

  • Check response.
  • Check breathing.
  • Call local help early.
  • Keep the person warm and watched until help arrives.

Most problems are easier to prevent than fix. Wear your life jacket, stay near the boat, tell the guide if you are tired, and never chase fish or turtles into current.
